Europe PMC is PubMed plus full text, preprints, and links — an openly funded index that mirrors PubMed’s biomedical coverage but adds the layers researchers actually need: full-text search, preprint indexing, links to funding and underlying datasets, and a genuinely open API. For anyone doing evidence synthesis in health and life sciences, it’s often the better front door than PubMed itself, especially when you need preprints alongside peer-reviewed work. The limits are that it’s biomedicine-focused, and full-text coverage depends on what publishers deposit. Use it as your open biomedical index; it complements rather than replaces PubMed’s MeSH precision.
