Regional databases
The databases the big commercial indexes systematically under-count — where a huge share of the world’s research actually lives.
Most database advice assumes a North American institution with a North American license. The reality is that Latin America is barely 3% of Scopus, and Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Indonesian, Russian, and Ibero-American scholarship is largely invisible to the global indexes. If your topic has a regional research base, searching only the big indexes means you’re systematically late — or missing it entirely.
