Our Take
Google Dataset Search does for data what Google Scholar does for papers — a single, familiar search box that spans government portals, repositories, and institutional sites, as long as they publish standard dataset metadata. For finding a dataset without knowing which repository holds it, nothing is faster. Like Scholar, its breadth is also its weakness: no quality filter, inconsistent metadata, and coverage limited to sites that mark up their data. Use it as your first stop to locate a dataset; then go to the source repository to assess and download it properly.
