Our Take
Together these are to biology and medicine what arXiv is to physics — the place findings appear 6 to 18 months before peer-reviewed publication. That’s the opportunity and the risk in one: enormous speed, but medRxiv in particular carries clinical claims that have not been vetted, so naïve citation is dangerous. The smart move is rarely to search them directly — Europe PMC indexes both alongside peer-reviewed literature and auto-links preprints to their published versions, and Sciety shows which have been evaluated. Use them for early signal; route discovery through Europe PMC and confidence-check through Sciety.
