Our Take
For computer science, the ACM Digital Library is the counterpart to IEEE Xplore — the full-text home of the ACM’s own journals and, crucially, the conference proceedings that carry so much of the field’s most important work. Its bibliographic layer reaches well beyond ACM’s own titles, and the metadata is clean enough for citation tracing. The trade-offs are the usual society-platform ones: it is a paid database, its full text is ACM’s catalogue rather than the whole field, and outside computing it is irrelevant. Use it as your precision index for CS journals and conferences; pair it with DBLP for coverage and arXiv for the latest preprints.
