Our Take
NASA ADS is the rare discipline index that is both comprehensive and free — for astronomy and astrophysics it is simply where the field’s literature lives, tying journal articles, arXiv preprints, and data archives together with citation and reference links that go back decades. Its full-text search, citation metrics, and export tools are excellent, and its API makes it a favourite for bibliometric work. The limits are scope, not quality: it is centred on astronomy and physics and thins out elsewhere. Use it as your default index in the physical sciences of space; you will rarely need anything else within the field.
