Semantic Scholar pairs OpenAlex-scale openness with AI features that genuinely save time — TLDR one-line summaries, ‘highly influential’ citation flagging that separates substantive citations from passing mentions, and the Semantic Reader for in-context reading. For triage and discovery it’s excellent, and the open API and bulk datasets make it a favourite for building research tools. As with any broad automated crawl, metadata quality varies and the AI summaries are aids, not substitutes for reading the methods.
